Rogers of Redhill was founded by Geoffrey and Vina Rogers in 1965.

On returning in 1945 after three years as a Japanese prisoner of war, Geoffrey Rogers could not face the confines and restrictions of a 9 to 5 job so became a commercial traveller selling heavy building materials. With his honesty, integrity and reliability, Geoffrey became very successful, enjoying the work and the people he met.

Seeing a gap in the market Geoffrey started his own business in 1965, supplying ironmongers and small builders with light building materials and a variety of goods such as guttering and rotary dryers. Using the spare bedroom as an office and a rented garage as a warehouse, Rogers or Redhill was born. Ian Slater, who is now Showroom Director, was the fledgling company`s first employee. Fred Gregg was the next to join in 1968 and is now Sales Director.

HISTORY PIC1

Redhill showroom

In the early 1970`s the company moved to a 1,000sq ft warehouse in Monson Road, Redhill. It was at this point that Geoffrey and Vina`s son, Tony joined the company. Tony is now Rogers Ceramics Managing Director.

HISTORY PIC2

Tony Rogers

Outgrowing both this warehouse and the extra space provided by a disused chapel a few doors down the road. Rogers acquired a 4,000sq ft warehouse and a suite of offices on the Homethorpe Industrial Estate in Redhill. The Monson Road property became a dedicated Retail Showroom as it is today. At this time building materials were sold alongside tiles. As the distribution business grew and the retail side of the business became established, the company now trading as Rogers Ceramics, continues to thrive.

Tony Rogers gained experience in every facet of tile distribution: deliveries, sales, warehousing and transport logistics before moving into management as his father reached retirement. When Geoffrey died in 1986, Tony was already Managing Director and presiding over a steady growing business.
